Thought I would write a post about the trip away to
Highlands – Experience the Exceptional that me and some friends went on in mid-March
A bit nervous on arrival as not 100% sure what to expect, but after a warm welcome we were given a run through of what the days schedule was, when we would have some free time and what we could expect.
First up were two rounds on the go karts which the 4 of us shared with 6 others. Jared led both sessions with Jason not far behind and Adam and me mid pack, leader board all done off lap times, so no bumping etc. Karts were good, had good power and you could get a bit of a slide on. Between races we had a look at the track and a bit of a go on the flying fox
A pdf of our lap times etc was sent out afterwards.
Once we had finished at the karts, we had a look around the car sculpture park, which is now in the process of getting changed to a mini golf course.
We were then picked up in the highlands taxi. A Porsche cayenne turbo. Where our driver took us on a tour around the track, pointing out the highlights and parts of the track and surrounding buildings. He then took us around the track for a fast lap, quite a surprise how much speed it had with 5 of us in there, but the body roll wasn’t great in the back.
We were then dropped off back at the main building, where we had a look around the museum of cars and memorabilia, then to the café for some lunch, or was it breakfast 🍳.
After lunch we headed up to the u-drive facilities, where we got suited up in our race gear, had a briefing about not spinning out or being a dick. And then one by one in with the pro driver and off for laps, the car was awesome, I have no idea on what speed we were going, but it felt pretty fast to me. The pro driver encouraging me to go faster. Started off quite nervous but excited and was able to get the hang of it, and more comfortable by about lap 5, but only 7 laps each.
First time I had done that kind of thing.
I must say it was awesome, I definitely could have gone for another session, and would be keen to do that kind of thing again.
Next up was a hot lap in a Ferrari 458. Speeds up to around 220 and a bit of air over the jump, this was also a good experience and judging by how often we saw the car go out, was a very popular attraction.
Overall, I think we all had a great time and definitely something I’d like to experience again; venue was great, and we felt very comfortable and welcome.
Thanks to Jared for all the organisation of the trip, and cheers to the other guys for enjoying it with me 🍻
